Hi folks, thank you for exploring into Part 5 of my SOUTHERN RIDE ... let me share a small introduction. |
When the rain finally stops at the lower elevation, Jon finally attempts the Puyehue Pass to cross over the Andes into Argentina. The water in his canteen freezes! The Lake District is filled with many beautiful deep blue lakes which are considered the most beautiful in the world! Bariloche is the top ski resort area in South America. Jon and the Waterbuffalo encounter near hurricane force winds going to Necochea. The ocean in the photos looks very ferocious. Jon demonstrates walking against gale force wind. San Antonio, Jon does a television interview to explain a truly unbelievable event that just happened! A world famous silversmith and a goucho museum are in San Antonio. Jon visits top cattle and grain farms in the Pampas. At Rosario, Jon meets many new friends at the local motorcycle club.
In Uruguay, the scenery is really different and many old cars, trucks and motorcycles are seen on the road from the 1920's, 1930's, 1940's and 1950's. Seeing the old vehicles reminded Jon of seeing them in magazines when he was a kid. Mercedes and Colonia are truly unique! Montevideo, the capital, has a beautifully lit main street at night. Chui and Rivera are unusual border towns separated from Brazil by an open street. Part 5 ends in an old Earnest Hemmingway type hotel in Rivera. DON'T MISS PART 5!!!

Jon used the beautiful volcano Lacanquebar as a reference point while exploring near San Pedro Chile. A compass will not be accurate in this area. |

This spectacular photo in the Atacama Desert is beautiful and rare because of the danger getting to this area ALONE! Simply put, If the Waterbuffalo would QUIT --- Jon would die! |
The Atacama desert has received no recorded rainfall over the past 400 years. Yes, the Waterbuffalo's motor is running in in the photo. For safety reasons Jon does not shut the motor off! |
At night, Jon got quite chilly due to cool wind blowing across these ridges but the sunsets were fantastic in the Atacama Desert. |

This is the lake district of Argentina near Bariloche. The lakes in this area are among the most beautiful in the world with their rich deep blue color, in fact the blue color is so pronounced that they do not look real. Wait till you see the lakes in the part 5 video. |
